Eventually, all Linux desktops will ditch X.Org and move to Wayland (we’re currently in the middle of the transition). But until then, here’s a great optimisation and power management tool you might find useful. Xsuspender is a small program that suspends X11 applications when they’re out of focus. Consequently, this saves CPU cycles and RAM, which is sometimes crucial for notebooks that run on battery. In some regard, Xsuspender falls into the same category as Ananicy (LXF250) – both help notebooks run quieter and last longer between charges.
One joy of Xsuspender is that the multitasking experience doesn’t suffer as a result of using it. In fact, you’ll probably won’t even notice anything has changed, as a result of suspended programs waking up almost instantly whenever you come back to use them.
