Fedora 34
Red Hat-backed distros have had a falling out with the community off late. Mayank Sharma is hopeful this one will help heal some of those wounds.
IN BRIEF
One of the top RPM-based desktop distros that continues to justify its title as the premier Gnome-based desktop despite competition from all corners. Many of Fedora’s core developers are employed by Red Hat, which uses the Fedora project to introduce and polish virtually all of the components that eventually make their way into its enterprise offerings.

U nlike the Ubuntu 21.04 release (see page 21), Fedora 34 took the plunge to become the first mainstream distro to bundle Gnome 40. The jump from v3.38 to v40 might appear gigantic, but is mostly due to the desktop environment looking to simplify its versioning nomenclature. That’s not to say the new release is bereft of new features.
