Kernel Watch
Jon Masters summarises the latest happenings in the Linux kernel, so that you don’t have to.
W e are in the final stages of the Linux 6.13 development cycle, and with the recent Release Candidate (RC) 7, the final release should be any day now. This means that the merge window (the period of time during which disruptive changes are allowed) for Linux 6.14 will be opening, and we will have a summary next month.
In his customary weekly kernel summary announcing RC7, Linus noted that things were on track, having picked up after being quiet due to the end of year holidays and new year. But he also noted that he likes to spend his holiday time doing a LEGO build or two, and this year he had expanded to “LEGO for grown-ups with a soldering iron” and had been building guitar pedals. Not that he plays guitar, but he does enjoy the pedal kits and wants to continue making them for fun. Therefore, he is offering to build a free guitar pedal for any kernel developer who sends him an email about it.
