EYELET
FIRE
After losing a band member to Cate Le Bon, the remaining members of this Welsh avant-pop outfit (Emma and Mark Damon Thomas, along with Alex Williams) have clearly been scrupulously planning how to significantly up their psychedelic-pop game. Now signed to the Fire label, they have focused on irresistible take-home melodies, distinctive electronic arrangements and words which reveal their meaning with repeated listens - think Gang Gang Dance or Yves Tumor. No one member dominates on a single instrument, but it is unquestionably Emma’s yearning voice which leads proceedings. Recent singles Good Grief and Geese each contain more ideas than many bands stretch over a whole album, but Eyelet (see what they did there?) contains a trove of other tracks, which soon take up residence in the brain.
