iPod Hi-Fi With a new HomePod on the shelves, Graham Barlow looks back at Apple’s first venture into home audio
Apple surprised everybody in January this year with the release
of a new home speaker, the second incarnation of the HomePod.
Undercut by much cheaper Alexa rivals, the original 2018 HomePod model had disappeared from Apple’s product line-up by 2021, with only the cheaper HomePod mini still available for anybody who wanted to buy an Apple speaker. But now the new full-size HomePod (2nd gen) is back to reclaim its rightful throne from Alexa.
