The new M2: coming to a Mac near you!
Apple has been slowly switching its line-up of Macs over to its own Apple silicon processors for a while now. Starting off in the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro 13-inch and Mac mini, Apple launched its M1 processor back in 2020, quickly followed by the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips in 2021 in the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros and 24-inch iMac. The jewel in Apple’s processor crown though was the M1 Ultra chip, reserved for the all-powerful 2022 Mac Studio, which rules the roost in terms of performance. Now a new M2 chip has made its debut in the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro 13-inch. It’s faster than the M1 but, confusingly, not as fast as the M1 Pro at some graphics intensive tasks.
