THERE ARE FEW things more annoying or distracting when you’re trying to work, sleep, or watch the latest episode of your favorite show, than the repetitive pinging of notifications.
Even in silent mode, if your iPhone or Watch is set to vibrate, it can be distracting. Apple has long recognized the value of a good night’s sleep and allowed you to turn off notifications at night. Now it has extended that so you can turn them off for specific purposes during the day. You can create Focuses based on activity such as driving, reading, or fitness. Or you can create custom focuses. Whichever route you choose, you can decide which apps can override the Do Not Disturb setting and send you notifications. You can also choose which contacts can still get in touch — those you don’t allow will see a status message in Messages telling them that your notifications are currently off.
