Display interfaces are not obviously aspirational or exciting. Certainly, they’re critical enablers of good display technology, but we’re into the realms of the mundane and functional when it comes to comparing HDMI to DisplayPort, right?
Perhaps. But if there is an exception, a display interface that’s so slick and clever it’s actually cool, it must be USB Type-C and its Thunderbolt cousin. If you’re a laptop user, the ability to plug in a single cable to drive an external display, charge the laptop itself, and also connect peripherals including input devices and external storage is liberating. Slap that notebook down, shove in just one cable, and you’re almost instantly good to go. USB-C is far tidier, too. Once you’ve experienced a USB-C monitor, you won’t want to go back to that rats’ nest of cables.
