THE BUILDS
THIS MONTH’S STREET PRICES...
BUDGET
HOW HIGH CAN
you go before a budget rig stops being budget? That’s a pertinent question with how GPU pricing is tumbling. On the AMD side, the Radeon RX 6800 vanilla GPU is now very cheap.
As we go to press, you can get one on Newegg for just $399. That’s for a brand new card—not a refurb, not open box. What a deal. It’s awfully tempting to slot it into the AMD budget rig and fiddle around with some other items to keep the price under $1,000. To be honest, that wouldn’t be hard, given that with no changes, the total would come to $1,005.
But then that’s a slippery slope. Why not find some serious savings throughout and try to drop in a 6800 XT for $495 and still keep the overall total below $1,000? With this in mind, we’re not going to slap a $399 GPU into a budget rig, no matter how good a deal it seems. Happily, however, there’s an even cheaper RX 6700 XT that we can stick in.
Okay, it’s only $10 less than last month’s PowerColor branded item. But it’s still a bit cheaper, and it’s likewise still pretty remarkable to find last-gen AMD cards that remain available, and just keep getting cheaper.
