Advance care planning for people living with long-term mental health conditions – what about end of life care?

Just to set the scene for my piece on this important but often forgotten area of care: I was a ‘jobbing community psychiatric nurse’ for 13 years in various roles – then I became a team manager of a community mental health team in Bristol before leaving mainstream clinical practice to become mental health advisor at the then Avon Health Authority in Bristol.

I left the NHS to pursue roles in commissioning, one of which was as senior commissioner for end of life care in Devon for several years.
