Bloodywood’s screamer-in-chief tips his cap to the excellent metal he grew up on, from Linkin Park to All Shall Perish
WORDS: MATT MILLS
“LINKIN PARK ARE how I got into metal. Instead of the conventional way of getting into metal, like Metallica, I went through Linkin Park, Rammstein and Amon Amarth. I sang Somewhere I Belong when I was 15 at a school singing competition and I won second prize. It’s one of these tracks where we [in Bloodywood] can all agree that it’s great. The next song is This Fire Burns by KILLSWITCH ENGAGE. I didn’t even know it existed until I saw CM Punk walking out to this song. I don’t even watch WWE a lot; it was just on the TV. I became a fan of CM Punk because of the song: ‘This guy walks out to metal? Awesome!’ Speaking of wrestling, to this day, I don’t like the original intro to Metalingus by ALTER BRIDGE. I need to listen to Edge’s theme song – that opening gets me hyped! Myles Kennedy is a phenomenal singer. That entire band is a recipe for success; those four members are the perfect ingredients for food that will comfort your soul. Mark [Tremonti] is a magician on the guitar.
