Metal’s heirs apparent state their case in Camden
CAMDEN’S BLACK HEART is rarely as rammed as it is this evening. It’s not surprising - the opportunity to see as hotly tipped a new band as Vended play their first ever headline show outside of their home country doesn’t come around too often, and so it’s one of those sweat-drippingfrom-the-walls kind of evenings. Anticipation is in the air too, and so when GRAPHIC NATURE arrive to warm us all up, they have a heaving, captive audience in front of them. The Kent band are young, with only a handful of gigs under their belt, and although their songs are heavy, springy and groove-filled modern metal, they could do with utilising a bit more variety and dynamism. They are a confident bunch, though, and their between-song interludes use elements of hip hop, trance and trip hop in rather interesting ways. Maybe if they could find room for those ideas in their actual songs then they could be onto something interesting, but right now, they’re filed in the ‘untapped potential’ category.
