COALS TO NEWCASTLE
Featuring previously unpublished images, plus lots of maps and useful diagrams, this engaging book tells the story of the railway that ran from the Consett area down to the south bank of the Tyne, carrying huge tonnages of coal from Durham pits. Later, part of the route became synonymous with the Tyne Dock-Consett iron ore trains, which worked the fearsome gradient in the opposite direction. There are plenty of fascinating images, offering inspiration for anyone with an interest in the North East’s railway history.
