The Big Picture
The latest happenings from the world of model railways

If there’s one thing model railway builders are good at it’s accumulating a lot of stuff. We rummage in the bargain bins at exhibitions and we never, ever throw anything away – it might be useful in the future! We’re always thinking ‘I could turn that plastic kit sprue into something.’ 99% of the time it gets put in a box of bits, never to be seen or touched again until eventually the pile gets so big that something has to be done. You can’t just bin the lot, surely? You could follow Dave Finney’s lead and build a shunting layout using as many bits and bobs as possible, purely to put them to use. Read more about how he created his latest layout ‘Cheeky Shunt’ in an upcoming issue of Model Rail.
