… and finally
Unusual scenes captured by the lens of Chris Nevard…
The much-loved former Somerset & Dorset line closed on March 7 1966. With the writing on the wall, several railtours operated over the route in the final years, with Bath Green Park shed’s Stanier 2-8-0 No. 48660 being a regular choice of locomotive. Combwich was a little-known western outpost of the former S&DJR, but it nevertheless didn’t miss out on the popular enthusiast railtours. With just a couple of weeks prior to withdrawal in the summer of 1965, a grubby 48660 is captured playing to an audience of locals, railway staff and railway enthusiasts.
