Harley-Davidson was created by four people: William S. Harley, along with three Davidson brothers — Arthur, Walter and William. William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson grew up together as friends with an admiration for motor-driven bicycles. William Harley (a draftsman) and Arthur (a pattern maker) only had a blueprint, so Arthur convinced his railroad machinist brother, Walter, to join the fledgling company in 1903.
