LOW-COST AIRLINE Wizz Air Abu Dhabi managed to double the number of flights and passengers it carried in 2023 compared to the previous year. The joint-venture established between the Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company and Wizz Air Holdings in 2019, completed 15,000 flights last year and carried a total of three million passengers.
The airline increased its fleet size by four during 2023, taking the total to 12 airframes. This was done through the transfer of aircraft between the various group airlines. At the end of 2022, the roster comprised eight Airbus A321neos, whereas it now consists of seven A321ceos and five A321neos. The former are configured to seat 230 passengers while the latter can cater for 239.
As a result of the boost in numbers, the seat capacity at the Abu Dhabi subsidiary was increased by 135% to 3.7 million seats per annum. Johan Eidhagen, managing director of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, said: “We are very proud of all our achievements during this record-breaking year, and we are delighted to continue building upon our incredible year-on-year growth. We would like to thank our passengers that travelled with us and we reaffirm our commitment to connecting people to create great memories next year and beyond, at the lowest fares possible.”
