HAPPY NEW YEAR, railfans, train drivers, historians and enthusiasts!
We get the year started with a special look at the Australian Standard Garratt (ASG) locomotives, especially as this year makes 80 years since their arrival.
In a nutshell it is a locomotive that so many enthusiasts love to hate! Born out of wartime need and austerity by the Commonwealth Land Transport Board they were designed and worked across several 3 ft. 6 in. (1067 mm) gauge systems across Australia.
As one of our writers commented, ‘why do rail enthusiast dislike the ASG? When you scratch the surface, it is apparent that very few have taken the time to read all the information in the readily available texts. Far fewer have bothered to pursue the rarer tomes and even fewer have committed the time and resources necessary to dredge the various State and National Archives holdings.’
Through this month’s article we look at their usage in Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania and their short tenure in South Australia. Make sure you don’t miss this special issue!

Highly recommended Ozzie Railway History Mag

Anyone interested in Australian Railway history, this is a well produced, and high quality mag. My great grandfather helped built many of these railways in late 19C. Beoordeeld op 22 november 2018
