December 4, 2013, is something of an anniversary date for all of us at Classic Car Buyer as its four years to the day since our rst issue appeared
back in 2009. Back then there were those who said we “wouldn’t last six weeks” in what was considered a vastly overcrowded market, but
206 issues on we’re still here, sales are still rising year-on-year,
and it’s clear from this, and the ‘customer feedback’ we receive,
that you the readers like what we’re doing. For myself, I like to
think that we’re offering something that’s “Distinctively Different” from
anything else in the marketplace, so that people have a genuine
choice between different types of publications. It’s also refreshing how
many people now come up to us at shows and the like with feedback
about what they like – and, just as importantly, what they don’t like – about Classic Car Buyer; please keep on telling us! This week we’ve the usual varied mixture of features and news. Ian Cushway looks at buying a Jensen Interceptor, Jack Grover guides us through the massive range of Land Rovers that emerged from Lode Lane in the ‘Eighties, while I take an
MG Metro belonging to my old mate Colin Corke for a test drive; I wasn’t
surprised by how good it was, but you might be! I’m also offering a bit
of advice on how to preserve your classic. Then there’s some important
news – for example, from next month it will no longer be necessary
to produce proof of insurance when buying a car tax disc and, with the
closure of DVLA local offices, car clubs are to be given a greater role in the processing of claims for ‘lost’ original registrations.
We also welcome a new ‘columnist’ to our team from this week – James Ruppert. James is a regular contributor to a number of motoring magazines – classic and modern – and has produced numerous books including Bangernomics, The British Car Industry: Our Part In Its Downfall,
The German Car Industry: My Part In Its Victory and My Mini Cooper:
Its Part In My Breakdown.
