Claire Boucher’s been threatening Miss Anthropocene for a year, though tracks have leaked like US intelligence agencies, and she, apparently, has been ‘over’ it a while. Perhaps she’s noticed it’s the equivalent of a Swarovksi ‘diamond’: initially dazzling, but it doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. She’s certainly a gifted producer: her electronica is scintillatingly rich, so digital you expect her to sing in binary, but she trades in disappointingly unimaginative visions of the future, something her fifth album’s cover inadvertently concedes.
