Governments should be more specific about the kind of physical activity people should engage in to help relieve mental illness and promote mental wellbeing, according to a report in the Journal of Mental Health and Physical Activity. Researchers found that simplistic encouragements to ‘move more’ might lead to people getting a bit more exercise, but aren’t likely to improve their mental wellbeing. Instead, governments should encourage everyone to get involved in fun physical activities in their leisure time to really reap the mood-altering benefits of an active lifestyle.
