TOUGH times for ITN. The announcement this month of a likely takeover by Comcast of ITV’s broadcasting business (which includes ITV News) threw a huge cloud over the future of the venerable news producer, whose contract to provide news on ITV channels runs until 2030.
An email from Andrew Dagnell, the former ITN editor in chief who is now ITV’s director of news and current affairs, did little to quell the uproar. “I know speculation of this kind can feel unsettling, but our focus remains the same,” he wrote to ITN staff, many of whom were busy refreshing their CVs.
