Social media sucks. There, I said it! Conversely, I like it because it allows me to keep in touch with friends all over the world and enables me to work from home, but… And that’s a big but: The ever-present demand to comment, interact and be sociable is exhausting for introverts.

I asked the women in a Facebook group to name their biggest struggle as an introvert and most of them said ‘having to engage on social media’, so I know I’m not alone. It’s easy to get caught up in comparison paralysis and wish your life was glossier, perkier and Insta-filtered. Social media is there to help us connect with others, but if it leaves us disconnected, lonelier and unhappier, it’s not working in the way that it should.
