Knopfler's 1937 National Style O Resonator, shot for Guitarist magazine in 2018
Mark Knopfler’s 1937 National appears on the cover of Brothers in Arms and was used most notably on Romeo And Juliet and Telegraph Road. Before electric amplifiers, resonator guitars were a solid way to make your guitar louder. The sound is transferred through the bridge to metal cones that project the sound forward. They’re not just loud, they also have a distinctively metallic tone that suited both Knopfler’s fingerpicking and slide playing by the likes of Son House.
