A NEW organic whisky distillery has started distilling its first batch of spirit.
Perched above the Sound of Mull in the remote community of Drimnin on the Morvern peninsula, Ncn’ean Distillery, formerly called Drimnin Distillery, has begun work on its first single malt - which is expected to be ready in 2020. Committed to a sustainable manufacturing approach, Ncn’ean claims to be the first organic distillery in Scotland.
The distillery has been designed as the first fully organic distillery in Scotland powered by renewable energy. Wood chips for the biomass boiler are sourced from a local forest, while all by-products are recycled as animal and plant feed on the remote estate on which it lies.
