There are some public facilities that are absolutely crucial to the communities – especially remote ones – which they serve.
A very good case in point is the community hall on Raasay, where a spirited campaign has been launched to save it after botched workmanship left it in a condition that was described as battered and bruised.
Raasay Community Association (RCA), which owns and runs the hall, quite rightly says it has become a ‘vital asset to the community’ since its opening in 2009.
