Long-distance swimming, white-water rafting, cross country skiing, scuba-diving, sea kayaking, parachuting - as an army combat medic serving around the world, Simon Harmer spent his life practising extreme sports. But in October 2009, four weeks after he was deployed to Camp Bastion in Afghanistan, all that changed.
Just 150 metres from his patrol base, Simon was on a foot mission in the Afghan town of Babiji when he stood on an improvised explosive device which detonated beneath his feet. He lost both his legs and almost his life.
