When looking for the perfect backdrop it helps to experiment by defocusing the lens, and trying out different backgrounds, taking a few test shots to see how the background looks when blurred. The best backdrops for this usually have a mix of light and dark; specular highlights like bright lights can also look beautiful when blurred, resulting in some delightful-looking bokeh.
