PROJECT 3
Blue for you
In this fun photo project Dan Mold shows you how to create cool and artistic cyanotype prints at home without the hassle
T his month we’re going to look at the historic printing process of cyanotypes – a great entry point into the world of printing, and a fun home project too. Cyanotypes date back to the Victorian era, when it was discovered by scientist and photography pioneer Sir John Herschel. It was adopted as a way to copy technical drawings – hence the term blueprint – but is perhaps most famous as botanist Anna Atkins’ medium of choice, creating the world’s first photo-illustrated book.
