HOW TO SHOOT AMAZING IMAGES
Simplicity is so often the key to success. As the late, great Jane Bown proved so emphatically, all you really need is a camera, lens and a certain amount of modest assuredness. It’s this pared-down approach that inspired this issue’s big feature – Richard Collins’ guide to studio-style portraits, without the studio-style trappings. Richard worked for the likes of Dazed & Confused and i-D during the heady nineties and knows how to make a little go a long way. Every image in his sixteen page masterclass, was made using a single light source, from small windows to a cheap £25 ringflash. So keep it simple, get stuck in and don’t forget to show us your results.
