WITH THEIR STUNNING debut The Machine Is Burning And Now Everyone Knows It Could Happen Again, French art rockers Bruit<_ have dropped an early contender for album of the year. Leaning heavily on analogue technology as opposed to digital modelling, synthesis and production tools, as well as eschewing overly aggressive compression, has resulted in an open, organic and vibrant listen. Although such recording techniques provide an unstudied and natural feeling, the finished album is the result of careful planning, sound design, orchestration and production. It turns out that from atmosphere, to melody, to production, the band’s greatest skill is in making this intricate and ambitious record feel so effortless to the listener.
