SUBLIME LISTENING
Having purchased the recent reissue of Marillion’s Fugazi (what a brilliant remix), it was interesting to read the great article [in Prog 123] about the recording of this album.
First, I must explain that while I love most of Marillion’s output I am very much a Fish-era fan. I have seen them on many occasions and do like Steve Hogarth but believe that Fish’s latest Weltschmerz [released in 2020] is better than anything Marillion have produced since he left.
What I was surprised at though is how down the article was on Fugazi. If I think: “Let’s put a Marillion album on” it will be Fugazi. The opening of Assasing grabs your ears and says “listen to this”; Punch And Judy is a far better single than Garden Party; Jigsaw is sublime; and Incubus has some of Steve Rothery’s best guitar work. If Fugazi is the low level of the band then what a testament it is to them.
