With longevity comes a degree of predictability. After all, many bands settle into a groove or pattern with the ease of slipping on a pair of comfy slippers, where risk is replaced by inevitability and crowd-pleasing by numbers. Not so Mogwai. While power, amplification and the wake of sonic destruction are to be expected, quite where and how they appear is anybody’s guess, not least as the Scottish postveterans mix up their setlists on a nightly basis to ensure that no two gigs are the same.
