SING FOR YOUR LIFE!
SOMEWHERE IN MY MEMORY…
In this month’s column, musician James Sills explores the songs we sing at Christmas, and how they help us to connect with our past and present
‘The best way to spread Christmas cheer is to sing loud for all to hear,’ proclaims Will Ferrell’s character Buddy in the 2003 film Elf. W hether it’s belting out Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You at a party, joining a pub singalong, or singing carols in your local church, we often seek out opportunities to sing together at Christmas more readily than at other times of the year. It helps us to celebrate the festive season, to connect with those around us and – importantly – to reconnect with our past, both collectively and individually.
