3 The Jellyfish Nebula (IC 443)
Dig deep in the constellation of ‘the Twins’ and you’ll find some of winter’s best-kept secrets emini, also known as the Twins, sits nicely about halfway up the sky at this time of year and G contains many lovely objects for those armed with a telescope. These vary from open star clusters to faint nebula and even a supernova remnant. The two bright stars that mark out the constellation are interesting too. Alpha Geminorum, known as Castor, is a lovely star system composed of three binary pairs all linked together by gravity, and Beta Geminorum, known as Pollux, is an orange giant star and is known to have an extrasolar planet orbiting about it. Though it’s a simple constellation, there’s plenty to see.
