This early silver ‘castle top’ vinaigrette by Joseph Willmore (1773- 1855), Birmingham 1838, shows Kenilworth Castle in Warwickshire. It is estimated at £400-600 by Aston’s of Dudley, West Midlands, in the February 21 auction.
The grandson of Thomas Willmore, an original member of the Birmingham Assay Office, he registered his mark in the city in 1806 and became well regarded as a maker of snuff boxes with repoussé or castle-top lids.
