One of the best pieces of early oak at spring provincial sales was this 17th century carved oak mural livery cupboard sold at Henry Adams (20% buyer’s premium) of Chichester, shown above.
Featuring a scroll carved frieze above spindle turned cupboard doors, on stepped base section with single cupboard door, the 2ft 10in (86cm) tall cupboard was estimated at £800-1000 at the April 17 sale but sold at £6800.
