A fan showcasing the opulence of 19th century European aristocracy will be auctioned at North Yorkshire saleroom Tennants on June 27.
The fan – signed by renowned French fan maker Alexandre and painter Edouard Moreau (1825-78) – is thought to have been a wedding gift for Madam Stolypina, née Princess Trubetskaya, who married Prince Semyon Vorontsov, the only son and heir of Prince Mikhail, in 1851. It is believed the fan was ordered by Queen Marie-Amelie of France from top Parisian jeweller Mellerio.
