Two lots offered as part of a Chinese works of art auction held by Christie’s (25/20/14.5% buyer’s premium) on May 12 brought matching bids of £110,000 – far, far in excess of their estimates.
One offered 1072 Christie’s catalogues relating to Chinese and Japanese art sales dating from the 1930s to the present day, while the other presented an even larger group of 1547 Sotheby’s catalogues. The latter, covering Chinese and other Asian works of arts sales dating from the 1940s to the present day, also included duplicates.
