Among the sales at the latest edition of Masterpiece, which ran in a digital format for the second year running from June 24-27, was this Neoclassical portrait of the Emperor Napoleon in his coronation robe, right.
The painting came from the studio of Napoleon’s favourite portrait painter François Gérard (1770-1837) and is a bust-length version of the artist’s official full-length portrait of Napoleon commissioned in 1804.
The work sold on the virtual stand of Imperial Art to a private collection in Switzerland with an asking price of £180,000.
