ARGYLL and Bute Council has become the latest Scottish local authority to ban the use of sky lanterns and helium balloons from its property in a bid to protect farmland and livestock.
A motion to the full council last Thursday by Councillor Bruce Marshall, who farms in Cowal, was agreed with no debate by fellow members.
In a statement, the National Farmers’ Union Scotland said: ‘Well done and thank you to Argyll and Bute Council, which has become the latest local authority to ban the use of sky lanterns and helium balloons following efforts by NFU Scotland in recent months.’
