THE 2008 Olympics in Beijing could become the joint most successful medal-winning Games for Britain’s athletics team since Seoul 1988 if potential medal upgrades are officially confirmed by the International Olympic Committee.
The British women’s 4x400m relay squad, who originally came fifth, stand to be awarded a bronze medal after the fourth-placed Belarusian team were disqualified due to Sviatlana Usovich’s positive test.
A bronze medal for the quartet would give Christine Ohuruogu a second from the Games after she won the individual 400m title in China and a fourth of her career while also giving Kelly Sotherton the second of her career, having won heptathlon bronze in Athens four years’ previous. Nicola Sanders and Marilyn Okoro would receive their first ever Olympic medals.
