IF ANY athlete is capable of beating the dominant Caster Semenya this year it would seem to be Francine Niyonsaba. The Burundian closed in on the South African’s 2016 world-leading time with her 1:56.92 in Birmingham.

Asked whether she thought Semenya, who this year has returned to the form which brought her the world title in 2009, was unbeatable, she said; “It’s possible, nothing is impossible for me. I’m going to be working hard and my goal is in Rio.”
