Can’t find a Pulse
I’ve just returned in my Nissan Leaf from a journey from York back to my home in Ipswich that took 12 hours.
The outward drive was smooth, taking just five hours. I stopped for rapid charges at the Holiday Inn at Huntingdon Racecourse and Markham Moor Inn in Retford.
I called at these places in reverse order on the return home. Being down to 54 miles of predicted range when I arrived at Markham Moor, I wasn’t happy to find the charger not working. I phoned the helpline and was informed that the inn was awaiting a repair man. I was then given the postcodes for three more rapid-charging stations nearby, in Retford, Newark and Long Stretton.
All of these also weren’t working on my arrival, and none explained what was happening on its screen. I tried to ring their helplines but was told via a recorded message that it was impossible to connect my call.
I eventually found a Tesla driver who took pity on me and allowed me some electricity from the charger at his workplace on an industrial estate.
This one-hour charge proved just enough to get me to Grantham Services, where there was only one rapid charger (apart from those for Jaguar and Tesla EVs only). I then limped home with just five miles of range remaining. It was at this point that my phone ran out of credit.
