A previous title in the Modelling British Railways series examined the locomotive fleet of the 1990s in detail and covered the many changes that happened as British Rail gave way to the privatised network that exists today.
As that decade drew to a close, the end was in sight for numerous locos as EWS began to modernise its fleet with General Motors designs in the form of Class 66s and Class 67s while Freightliner started to invest in the new order.
Modern Freight Locomotives is volume eight in the Modelling British Railways series and picks up on the locomotive fleet story from 2000 through to today.
