The previous rear facade of this family home was of poor quality construction and the internal layout was disorganised. Studio 30 Architects removed walls and replaced the existing rear extension and loft conversion with larger, full width ones. This created enough space to rework the floorplan to better suit the owners’ needs. The kitchen forms the heart of the new zone and naturally darker areas have been allocated to lesser used spaces.
By raising the dormer loft ceiling and adding full height fenestration, more light is allowed in and views of the garden are enhanced. The ground floor addition extends out the full 6m that’s allowed under England’s larger permitted development rights and includes sliding glazed doors installed across the entire width of the elevation. A rooflight allows more natural brightness to flood into the reworked open-plan living area.
