A glance at the What’s On listing starting on page 64 in this issue shows a
distinct increase in the number of events taking place in just over a week’s time on what will be the last Sunday of the month. This is because April 27 is now recognised as Drive It Day, a major occasion on the classic car calendar and one that we are all looking forward to here at
Classic Car Buyer. To help get your classic in fine fettle for this special day without too much hassle and expense, this week’s Classic Know How is all about waking your car from its winter hibernation and preparing it for
the new season. Following Peter Simpson’s simple tips could help prevent an expensive roadside breakdown and we even list the essential repair items and tools to carry in the boot if the worst does happen.
Now the nights are getting lighter, there’s plenty of opportunity between now and the 27th to ‘get out and get under’ and make sure the pride and joy hiding away in the garage or lock up is prepared for what could be its first major outing of the season. For owners taking advantage of the
pre-1960 MoT exemption scheme, laid up vehicles must be inspected
thoroughly before being taken out on the road. Although it may be
obvious what to look out for when re-commissioning a classic after
its winter nap, our informative Preparing for Drive It Day checklist
is a reminder of what problems could be in store when the dust sheets come off that cherished classic. Unfortunately, space dictates that we can only list a fraction of the total number of events that will be taking place on April 27 as most clubs will be either running their own event or taking part in a specially organised road run visiting several venues along the
way.
