Dave Gahan’s new album with the Soulsavers has allowed him to walk in colleague Martin Gore’s shoes. The Depeche Mode singer’s second collaborative record with producer Rich Machin, Angels & Ghosts, changed his songwriting methods. “Martin has complete ideas of how to take a pop song and make it more interesting with textures,” Dave explains. “With Soulsavers, I get to stretch that muscle. You have to work with others, especially after this amount of time working with the same people.” Although both Dave and Martin have enjoyed solo projects this year, they’re eager to get back to their day jobs: “The last tour was probably the most enjoyable time that Martin and I have spent on stage together,” says Dave. “It felt like a real team. It’s taken a long while for us to get there.”
