Former Doctor Who actor Peter Capaldi can thank an 80s pop favourite for transforming him into a bona fide songwriter. The ex-Time Lord released debut album St Christopher earlier this year and revealed: “My friend Dr. Robert from The Blow Monkeys hosts together. He knew I played guitar and leaned on me to come along. I scribbled out a song and they turned a happening every year where musicians come it into proper music within a day. I then had a go at writing more.” Peter, who also happens to be cousins with Lewis Capaldi, ended up penning his album while filming The Suicide Squad, explaining to The Guardian: “I bought a cheap electric guitar and made demos on GarageBand. I’d send them to Robert, who very sweetly until eventually we had enough to take into the loved to be a musician but that would’ve also rejected a whole pile studio. I would have had its ups and downs, so I’m happy to be coming to it at this late stage.”
