Perhaps Pet Shop Boys have finally given up on radio if the length of their new single is anything to go by. Cricket Wife arrives on 7 May and clocks in at almost 10 minutes. It accompanies Annually 2021, the latest edition of the duo’s yearly hardback book. Described as “orchestral” and recorded separately at their individual homes during lockdown, the track’s lyrics are taken from a poem written by Neil Tennant. A recently shared “lockdown version” of West End Girls backs the single. The latest edition of Annually will also include the feature ‘A year’ –a definitive chronicle of 1986, the year Pet Shop Boys achieved global success, based on Neil’s diary.
